Absolutely, students today simply do not know a world without technology. The students I am teaching are middle school students the same age or younger than Google. They are digital natives and we need to speak their language.
Our job as educators is to prepare our students for the world they live in. We need to teach the them to become critical thinkers, make good decisions, allow them to collaborate with others and use their creativity. All of these skills can be taught with the use technology making the lesson more relevant for today's learners.
Through the use of technology students can be empowered to take ownership of their own learning. The relationship between the teacher and student can move to student driven and teacher guided. We as educators should embrace the shift in education. A quote from Sheryle Nussbaum-Beach says it well "Teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do."
